When the catalogue became a journey

Five new categories, unlock progression and an achievement album: a look at the expanded catalogue.

An editorial map of Paperlore’s new categories, from ancient civilizations to machines of the future.

The catalogue grew considerably before release. Dinosaurs, ancient civilizations, imagined cities and machines joined the existing scenes. Alongside the new pictures, we had to work out how players would unlock sections and keep track of finished puzzles.

Five new categories

Civilizations, Dinosaurs, Fantasy, Future and Machines each received ten pictures. They include a Viking harbour, a castle above the clouds, an orbital garden and a mountain train. We wanted switching categories to bring a different subject, rather than another page of similar images.

The illustration combines those themes into one map. It was drawn for the journal, not taken from the game: the actual catalogue gives each category its own section and emblem.

How sections unlock

Animals and Nature are available first, followed by Travel. Later categories require several different pictures to be completed in the preceding category. Replaying the same puzzle does not replace trying new scenes, and there is no need to rush a picture to progress.

Finished pictures stay in your personal collection, where you can find them after assembly. We also added an album of 54 achievements, each with its own paper illustration. The collection holds your pictures; the album records achievements in the game. The two screens serve different purposes.
