We skipped the long set of instructions before your first game of Paperlore. Instead, a small practice picture lets you try the controls, with prompts appearing as you go.
The picture has four shaped pieces. First you move two from the tray to the table, rotate and join them, then place the pair in the frame. The tutorial uses the regular game board, so there is no different set of controls to learn afterwards.

Show the action when it matters
There are 13 short actions in the sequence. We do not show every hint at once: handling pieces comes first, followed by zooming and moving the board.
At one point, a piece is hidden beyond the screen. Two animated hands show how to pan with two fingers. You find the piece, zoom out and join it to the others.

The drawings in this article are based on current tutorial frames, not archived concepts. You can skip the tutorial or restart it from the pause menu. The practice puzzle stays out of the catalogue and puzzle history; finishing every step earns the First Steps achievement.
We tested this sequence in a Pixel 8 emulator and on a real Pixel 7. We will revisit it as the game develops, particularly any step that leaves a new player wondering what to do next.
